PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland police are investigating a deadly shooting at a Lowe's store in North Portland.
It happened Saturday around 6:40 p.m. at the store location on North Hayden Meadows Drive.
According to police, when officers responded to the call they found one man who was shot.
He died at the scene.
Witnesses tell KATU that they were in the Garden Center when they heard a fight between a man and a woman. Then they say a security guard stepped in, but things only escalated from there.
"I have a toddler so we were trying to distract her so I wasn’t paying attention to what they were saying but the volume itself was getting louder and louder," explained Viktoria Rounds, who was standing just a short distance away from the shooting. "We heard a security guard saying something like come at me one more time and I have to fire and then a second later he fires. We just ran, we just ran inside the store in the Garden Center and then there were a lot of confused people trying to make sense of what just happened."
Those who work nearby say they heard between three and five shots.
Portland Police say everyone involved in the incident is cooperating with police. They did not confirm if a security guard was involved in the shooting.
Investigators are looking for witnesses who may have left the store.
